What is it?
Proofreading is the last stage before your work is published. You could think of it as quality control. If your work hasn’t been through the different stages of editing, you may not be ready for this one.
If you are unsure where you are with your work, I am more than happy to look at a short sample and offer some free advice.
What does it involve?
When I proofread, I’m looking for those little mistakes that have fallen through the gaps during the editing process.
The issues I look for include:
- Spelling errors
- Missing or incorrect punctuation
- Grammatical mistakes
- Stylistic inconsistency
- Typos
- Formatting errors and inconsistencies (eg fonts, chapter headings, line spacing)
- Missing or out of order page number
